| Me and Stephanie with Mr Appelton |
During our media lesson we had an interview with Mr appelton, who is a member of staff at camden but also a graphic designer. We interviewed him in order for us to get a better insight into the makings of a magazine, in preperation for us creating our own school magazines. We first found out how he created the 2010/2011 camden 6th form prospectus. When answering he said that he accidently took a good photo of the school and used it as his basis for the cover. He then said that he tried to replicate the Itunes flow cover because he was aware of the fact that his audience were young and this was a way to make the prospectus more appealing and attractive to them.
We also asked him about the colours and the colour variation that we should have in our magazines. He said to use a simple colour pallete and to use colours that are similar in tone but to use some variations in colour to keep the reader interested. We asked him how he came to the decision of using the colours in the prospectus. He said that he wanted to have a modern and fresher look by using a brigter version of the colour green used in the CSG logo, he said tht he wanted to use the colour green because green is considered as a colour of communication and he felt that this was a good representation of Camden School For Girls.
Mr appelton also said:
- use colours with a similar tone but with variations to keep it exciting, do not make the colour too different because they may look out of place
- Think of the image as a little photo frame with a little bit of text
-try to focus on the action rather than the person so that the picture does not look posed
- choose a font that is readable and not too over decorative also choose a simple font that also has other styles (bold, italic) so you have a consistant font throughout but with different styles
- a single strong image is best
